Credit Card and MoneySaving Tips - Part I
January 30, 2007 | Leave a Comment
Here are some basic tips that will help you increase your credit score and save a ton of money.
- Stop using Credit Cards. Cash is King and Debit Cards Rule! - Get one immediately!
- Keep a Credit Card for emergency purchases or if needed for room or car rental reservations. Use the Debit Card or Cash to Pay when you get the bill.
- Pay your Credit Card Bills on-time and don’t let your card go over it’s limit.
Both can result in fees of $30 or more. - Pay off your high interest credit cards first, no matter what the balances are..
- If you own a home, consider refinancing to pay off your credit card debt and to take advantage of great rates!
- Make sure you don’t pay any credit card or loan bills late. 30 Days late and you’ll get another negative mark on your credit. Do whatever you can to pay your bills on time..
- Start bringing your own lunches to work and make your morning coffee at home, instead of the drive through. Start putting away the money you used to spend buying coffee and use it to pay off debt.
- Write up a detailed budget and look for ways to reduce your spending.
- Look for ways to reduce your monthly bills such as changing your phone or cable plans, weather-stripping, buying generic grocery items instead of brand names.
- Get a second job in a social environment somewhere. It’s a great way to meet new people, make some extra money, and when you’re working, you’re not spending money.
- Refinance your car, or trade it in for a leased version.. You could save $100+ or more per month.
- Renegotiate your insurance plans.
- Look for other ways to make money without having to take another job. I receive income by promoting affiliate programs online.
- Don’t be afraid to use coupons, and buy in bulk. Small changes like this can add up to significant savings each month.
- Splurge on a credit repair kit. The information will cover the cost quickly.
- Assuming you’re not accident prone consider raising your insurance deductibles. You can save $100+ every month by increasing the amount of your deductibles.
- Figure out how much you’d save each year by quitting smoking or drinking. A pack a day is $1000 a year or more. And so is 5-7 drinks a week.
- Drive a lot? Make sure you check your tire pressure,
- Call your phone company and ask them to evaluate your plan. If you never specified a calling plan you could be paying 2-3 times more than necessary.
